How many boosts does a level 3 Discord server need?

The short answer: 14 boosts for level 3, the highest level a Discord server can reach. But the number alone is not much use. What matters is what you gain at each tier, and what makes you lose it.

The three tiers

The boosts have to be active at the same time. That is the most common mistake: no, two boosts a month for seven months does not give you level 2. You need seven boosts on the server at the same moment.

The mistakes that cost a level

1. Thinking boosts add up over time. They count simultaneously, never month after month.
2. Forgetting that a cancelled boost stops at the end of the paid period. The server drops a tier without warning, and the vanity URL is the first thing to go.
3. Moving a boost too soon. When a boost changes server, it is locked for several days before it can move again.
4. Counting on members who boost "to try". A boost given for one month disappears the next: leave yourself room if your level hangs on a single booster.

Keeping your level without thinking about it

If the server lives on its events, the simplest thing is to pay for boosts in three-month blocks rather than month by month: fewer renewals to watch, and a lower price per unit. And always keep one spare boost above the tier: the day somebody stops, you don't lose the banner and the custom link in the middle of a game night.
