Cheap Spotify Premium: every option
Student, Duo, Family, free trials, resellers: what each plan really costs and which one fits your situation.
Spotify has raised its prices several times in the last few years. The individual plan now sits around €12 a month, close to €145 a year to listen to music. Here is every way to bring that number down, the conditions attached, and the traps.
The official plans
- Individual: around €12 a month, one account.
- Duo: around €17 a month for two people at the same address, about €8.50 each.
- Family: around €20 a month for up to six accounts at the same address, around €3.50 a head if the household is full.
- Student: around €6 a month, with proof, renewable for a few years.
Family is by far the cheapest per person. Its catch is real: Spotify checks the address, and asks you to confirm it again from time to time.
Free trials
Spotify regularly offers one to three months free to new accounts, plus win-back offers for former subscribers who left months ago. It is free, it is official, and it costs nothing but a reminder in your calendar to cancel before the end if you don't want to continue.
Going through a reseller
As with Discord, Spotify's price isn't the same everywhere in the world. That is what lets shops offer subscriptions for much less: with us, Spotify Premium starts at €3.49 a month.
There are two ways to deliver it, and the difference matters to you:
- Activation on your account. You keep your playlists, your liked songs, your recommendations, your history. This is the one to aim for.
- An account is provided. You get ready-made credentials. Simpler to deliver, but you start from zero: no playlists, no recommendations, and you depend on an account you didn't create.
The delivery method is stated on every product before you pay. When you care about your library, and after a few years of playlists, most people do, pick activation on your account.
What to check
- The guaranteed period. A "one month" subscription should last a month; if access drops before that, it should be replaced without discussion.
- The payment method. Card or a recognised service. A traceable payment leaves you a way back; a transfer between individuals leaves you none.
Keeping your playlists whatever happens
Before changing any subscription, export your playlists. Spotify lets you make them public and collaborative, and several free tools save them to a file. Five minutes that save years of listening, whichever plan you pick next.
So which one?
- Six of you at the same address: the official Family plan, about €3.50 each.
- You are a student and can prove it: the Student plan, about €6.
- Everyone else: Spotify Premium at Olymp, from €3.49 a month, €29.99 for the year, less than three months at Spotify.
No address conditions, no proof to send, no account shared with five strangers: the subscription is activated on your account, your playlists and recommendations stay where they are, and it is guaranteed for the whole period. Have a look at the offers, it takes two minutes.
